What is korfball?
Korfball is
a team sport, similar to basketball and netball, but played in mixed teams of four men, and four women. It’s a
non-contact sport, and players only mark opponents of the same gender. Korfball originates in
Holland, and is now played in 57 countries worldwide.

The Korfball Pitch Korfball
is played on a 40m x 20m pitch, (similar to basketball or netball) which is divided into two
halves, or zones. The goalpost, or korf, (which is Dutch for basket) sits one third into each half of the pitch,
3 and a half metres from the ground.
Korfball Rules 2 men and 2 women from each team occupy each zone, one team attacking,
one defending. The ball is passed from person to person with the aim of trying to lose the defenders
and create a shooting chance. Attackers can’t
shoot if a defender of the same gender is within arms length, between them and the post. Unlike
basketball or netball, there are no set positions in Korfball, so players get to develop all
round skills. When two goals are scored, players change zones; attackers become defenders and
vice versa. If you’re interested in basketball or
netball or are looking for a sports team and live in Glasgow, why not come and give korfball a
shot?
